People with a vision
A group of people recently met to discuss their dream of giving shelter to homeless people.
When they met at AGS Lofoord in Strubenvale last Wednesday, they were sharing their passion of providing less fortunate people with a meal a day and a place to sleep.
Ruan Maas, from Recovering Manhood, a non-profit company (NPC), says their vision is to establish a shelter in Springs which will provide shelter for the homeless from 7pm to 7am.
“Not only would we provide a place to sleep, clean clothes and food,” he says, “but we will also focus on skills development.”
He claims this will benefit the homeless and the community.
“The church and the community cannot turn a blind eye and by finding a shelter we will probably give these people back their vision in life,” says Maas.
He says due to drug abuse people turn to crime.
“There are a few places in Springs we are considering, but before we can get the ball on the roll, we first have to do the logistics,” he says.
“Let’s give the community what the community needs, by giving these homeless people, sleeping in front of businesses and in parks, a shelter,” says Maas.
Ward councillor Dean Stone, who also attended the meeting, suggested the group set up a meeting with Ace Phiri, the Springs Customer Care manager, in order to present their ideas to him.
“Their idea can work if we get the right people on board,” he says.
