Ekurhuleni metro officially launched 36 brand new ambulances and seven primary response vehicles worth R34-million in Boksburg on Saturday.
Two ambulances were delivered at the Springs and Selection Park fire stations on the same day and are already operational.
William Ntladi, spokesperson for the Ekurhuleni Disaster and Emergency Management Services (DEMS) says the new addition will intensify quality rescue and emergency medical services requirements within Springs.
The vehicles were officially presented to the community by mayor Mzwandile Masina.
After the service provider handed over the keys to the mayor an official inspection was done. With red lights and sirens blaring throughout the station the new fleet was celebrated.
Ntladi says a total of seven ambulances will be handed over to the eastern DEMS operation region.
In addition to the existing fleets, Tsakane and Duduza fire stations received two ambulances each, while KwaThema Fire Station only received one ambulance.
“The emphasis is on the sustainability of quality service delivery, improved and quicker response time to medical emergency calls,” says Ntladi.
