The metro responded to complaints about metro workers wanting to read electricity meters.
Resident Lorraine Saffy reported the workers to the Addie as they were not aware of what is happening.
“We cannot open our doors to anybody and not all the workers had proof of identification with them,” she says.
According to metro spokesperson, Themba Gadebe, an ongoing electricity meter audit is currently taking place in Selcourt, Selection Park and in the Springs/Nigel depot areas.
“More than 1 000 properties have been visited already,” he says.
The audits are done to improve service delivery as the metro is recording a growing number of service meters which are inaccessible to meter readers.
This also includes meters which have possibly been tampered with or are faulty.
“We have modified the notice letters to show sufficient property details and more,” he says.
Gadebe says ward councillor Shadow Shabangu and the local Community Police Forums were alerted to the project.
