Staff at Daggafontein Epilepsy Centre put on a play for residents

“We want to incorporate them into the society,” says Selina Hadebe.

The staff at the Daggafontein Epilepsy Centre commemorated Youth Day on Friday by re-enacting the events of June 16, 1976.

“Most of our residents don’t know what happened so we wanted to show them what happened and why we celebrate this day.

“We made sure that we were careful with what we re-enacted because we didn’t want it to be violent because of their condition,” says Manini Moruwa who is a social worker at the centre.

The commemoration by staff forms part of the centre’s efforts to make sure that residents remain part of society and are aware of what is happening.

“There’s nothing that happens in society that we don’t acknowledge here.

“It is important for us to do that for the residents,” says Selina Hadebe, who is also a social worker at the centre.

Residents also celebrated Father’s Day on Sunday with gifts of chocolates and a movie.
