TS Springs does well in Vereeniging and Vaal Dam challenges
Besides the survival skills, the members are taught discipline, teamwork and mental toughness.
The TS Springs club has done very well this month in two challenges in Vereeniging and the Vaal Dam.
In the Gig Adventure which was held at the Vaal Dam at the beginning of August, the crew completed a 42km race within 24 hours.
The eight-man crew came third out of 33 clubs.

What makes their achievement more remarkable is that this was the first time competing in the competition.
“The crew did very well despite the challenging conditions like the bad weather and strong wind.
“They had to do everything on the boat and it was a survival thing.
“I’m very proud of them,” says training officer Michael Taylor.
In the TS Bounty boating and seamanship training in Vereeniging, three crew members received their coxswain licence.
The licence takes a year to achieve and it means they can now skipper the boat.

The club is active and has activities every second weekend.
Besides the survival skills, the members are taught discipline, teamwork, and mental toughness.
For those planning to pursue a career in maritime, the club is a good place to start, and one does not need to be a strong swimmer to join.
Those interested in joining the club can contact First Lieutenant Dorothy White on 071 6060 455.
The club meets every Friday from 5.30pm until 8.30pm.
