Local company donate container pool to Pinegrove Primary School
The company partnered with Eastern Gauteng Aquatics (EGA), to sponsor a second, fully-functional Learn to Swim container swimming pool, with the first being at the Nkabinde Primary School in KwaThema last year.
Pinegrove Primary School received their new container pool last Friday morning from Impla Platinum Refineries.
The company partnered with Eastern Gauteng Aquatics (EGA), to sponsor a second, fully-functional Learn to Swim container swimming pool, with the first being at the Nkabinde Primary School in KwaThema last year.
Unlike a traditional swimming pool, the container pool is portable and is cheaper to maintain.
With the addition of the pool, the company says they hope to remove barriers that prevent children from learning how to swim and teach children a valuable life-skill.

The school was delighted with their new gift and says education is about more than academic achievements.
“As a school, we hope to produce well-rounded children who excel in all areas of life.
“This is a great opportunity for the school and we couldn’t be more grateful,” says school principal Gert Brits.
Four teachers at the school have already started training to become instructors.
Through this important long-term initiative, the company and Eastern Gauteng Aquatics hope to fulfil a significant role in curbing the risk of drowning among children in disadvantaged communities.
“We are extremely proud to be part of this project.
“The launch of this second container pool is another milestone in our partnership with Eastern Gauteng Aquatics.
“The compact container pool provides a facility for learners from Grade One to Seven to learn to swim, in a comfortable and controlled environment,” said Suzanne Finney, Learn to Swim project administrator and chairman of the Impala Refineries’ sports committee.

Finney also challenged other companies and individuals to join them in their quest to make swimming accessible to learners in disadvantaged communities.
“Until such time as adequate and sustainable swimming pool facilities are available to all schools across the country, drownings will remain one of the leading causes of accidental death among youth in South Africa,” says Finney.
Commenting on the launch of the second container pool, Cheryl Knight, President of EGA says, “The children of Pinegrove Primary School have been afforded an opportunity to learn how to swim, an important life and social skill.
“We look forward to seeing how this opportunity will encourage growth, confidence and character in each child.
“To the children of Pinegrove Primary School, may you always be inspired and motivated, only those who take learning, growth and skills development into their own hands can be our champions of tomorrow.”
