Veritas College raises money for cancer at the shavathon

“Any chance we get to help out, we'll take it,” says Dr David Payaniandi, marketing manager at the school.

Veritas College was up bright and early to raise funds for the Cansa Shavathon at the Springs Mall on Saturday morning.

For the school, it was a chance to get involved in the community and raise funds for this illness which affects so many.

Kim and her daughter, Hayley du Toit, did their bit to raise funds for cancer.

“As a school, we’ve had a lot of experience with cancer with our staff and learners.

“Any chance we get to help out, we’ll take it,” says Dr David Payaniandi, marketing manager at the school.

Residents came out in their numbers to support the fund-raiser.

For Faith Unser, it was a joy to support the fund-raiser as she is a cancer survivor.

“I’ve been in remission for two years now, so I will support anything to do with cancer,” says Unser.

Courtney Murphy was a redhead for the day after her stint in the chair at the Cansa Shavathon at the Springs Mall on Saturday morning.

Kim du Toit, who brought along her daughter, Hayley, says she did it for her grandfather and for all those who are battling this dreadful illness.

Others like Grace Mbanjwa donated in memory of her friend Mapule Kgomo who passed away during her illness.

Payaniandi says the turnout was amazing and they managed to raise R7 000 for the foundation.
