Local dance school takes part in Dance World Cup qualifiers
The Dance World Cup final, to be held in Braga, Portugal, this year is a dance competition spanning the globe with more than 21 000 competitors from over 48 countries competing.
A troupe of 13 girls, ranging in age from 13 -22 years from the Rock-a-Tutu Dance Academy, entered under Borland School of Dancing, with the excellent training of Kelly-Ann De Marco, Kayleigh Ashton and Lisa Padeiro, attended their very first Dance World Cup qualifiers in Pretoria.
The Dance World Cup final, to be held in Braga, Portugal, this year is a dance competition spanning the globe with more than 21 000 competitors from over 48 countries competing.
This competition is fast evolving into a fantastic international stage for the young performers of the world to do what they love – dance.
Dancers who qualify at the South African leg dance as part of Team SA – representing our diverse country on the stage in Portugal.
Cayla van Breda, Tayla Nicolaou and Samantha Bhoola performed individual dances in the classical ballet and contemporary dance sections.

These individual performances were exceptionally well received by the judges and audience.
The full troupe of girls performed the Demi Character Dance that is a familiar number for the studio – Military Manoeuvres – with excellence and precision.
“This is a technically challenging ballet danced on pointe with combinations of pirouettes, arabesques, penchés, fouettés and piqué arabesques with a few grande jetés also added in.
“In total, it is an exciting and riveting dance that always rouses a great response from the audience.
“The team of international judges awarded Military Manoeuvers not only a first place, but also a mark high enough to qualify them to dance at the Dance World Cup finals, bringing a sense of pride and a touch of excellence to our little dance school on the East Rand,” says De Marco, the owner of the academy.
