With elections done and dusted, Springsites still see election posters around them.

With elections done and dusted, Springsites still see election posters around them.

This is contrary to the Independent Electoral Commission (IEC) rules, which state that election posters should be removed 14 days after the elections have taken place.

In some places such as in the City of Joburg, the municipality has given the political parties until May 31 to remove their electioneering posters.

Parties which don’t remove their posters by then will be slapped with a heavy fine of R200 per poster.

In the City of Cape Town, parties were given till May 20 to remove the posters and those who failed paid R117 per tied poster and R170 per pasted poster.

It is still unclear whether in our city parties will be fined or not. The metro failed to respond to our media enquiry by the time of publication.
