Springs Police partners up with Siyabonga Africa to tackle drug abuse
The NPO provides food security, basic support, social support, skills and training, development, enterprise development and job creation.
Members of the Springs South African Police Service (SAPS), the Spring Community Policing Forum (CPF) and concerned citizens gathered in Fourth Street as Siyabonga Africa visited Springs.
The event was initiated by the SAPS, who closed the street off for the event.
A small crowd had gathered to watch and listen to the message, many who are former drug users or homeless.
Siyabonga Africa is a non-profit organisation (NPO) which aims to alleviate poverty and rehabilitate drug users and get them off the streets.

They want to see a drug-free South Africa and their mantra is to combat poverty on its various levels by addressing the basic needs of disadvantaged people and giving those who can and will opportunities to become self-supported.
The NPO provides food security, basic support, social support, skills and training, development, enterprise development and job creation.
They also have rehabilitation clinics where addicts can get help.
They were accompanied by a small choir called Faithful Servants of Christ who sang passionate songs of worship.
Pastor Peter Ifeanyi opened the proceedings with a prayer, where he stated the only way to heal and free oneself from addiction is through prayer.

Carol Mofokeng, a social worker and the main speaker of Siyabonga Africa, says: “The streets will be drug-free in Jesus’ name.”
A former drug user addressed the crowd and stated it was through the grace of Jesus that he is drug-free and that his life is on the right path.
