Response from the metro

Gadebe says the project started in January 2019 and is estimated to cost around R 100-million over the period of three financial years.

The Addie ran a story, New lights for Selcourt, on June 27, on the new LCD lights being installed in Selcourt.

The metro has responded to the story.

The metro spokesperson, Themba Gadebe, says: “The high pressure sodium (HPS) lights (previous lights) have been in existence for over 10 years.

“The plan is to roll out the project in the entire metro over the next three financial years, subject to availability of funds.”

Gadebe says the project started in January 2019 and is estimated to cost around R 100-million over the next three financial years.

“The rising energy cost, tight budgets and rapid increase in overall electricity demand made it imperative for the metro to rethink how lighting can be provided in the most cost-effective manner.

“In short, this is to promote energy efficiency,” says Gadebe.

Gadebe says the community should be aware that the project is essential to meet the expected increase in energy demand in an environmental-sustainable manner.
