A disabled man was assaulted during a house robbery in Welgedacht last Wednesday evening, says Springs police spokesperson Capt Johannes Ramphora.
The victim, who is the owner of a hardware shop, had just arrived home with his family and his wife had just finished locking the main gate and assisting him with his wheelchair.
When his wife wanted to lock the front door, five suspects, each armed with a gun, entered the house.

One suspect demanded money and assaulted the victim in the wheelchair.
The victim’s family was ordered to lie down and were tied up with cable ties.
The other suspects started searching the house and found a safe, containing R45 000 which they took.
The suspects also took their car radio, car keys, gate remote, two electrical fan heaters and cellphones.

Before the suspects left they burnt the victim on his left hand with a clothing iron.
The victim’s son went to the neighbours and they called the police.
