“Pet owners must make sure their animals have identification tags or microchips to ensure they are returned safely when they are found.
“If possible, stay home with your animals and for those who can’t be at home, keep your furry friends inside.
“We are urging pet owners to make sure their pets have access to their favourite ‘safe place’ or find a quiet, comfortable, enclosed room where they can hide if they need to.”
Gadebe adds pet owners must ensure their pets cannot break through a window or slip out of a door.

“Try to mask any noise by closing the curtains and playing calming music at a reasonable volume.
“You should also put familiar and comforting things, such as toys and baskets, around them and provide them with something to do – like giving them a chewy bone or lots of catnip or a catnip toy for felines.
“If your pets do react badly to fireworks, get professional advice from your vet ahead of time and ensure your pets have a hearty and nutritious meal around nightfall as this will make them more likely to become sleepy,” he adds.
