Eastvale plauged by water problems

Ramesh Sheodin says as the ward councillor, I have to conclude that these water outages are due to the lack of timely maintenance at the reservoir in Modder East.

Residents in Eastvale have been frustrated by intermittent water supply in the area over the past year.

Things came to a head on Christmas Day when residents woke up to find they had no water.

In some parts of Eastvale, the water was only restored after 48 hours.

Ramesh Sheodin says as the ward councillor, he has to conclude that these water outages are due to the lack of timely maintenance at the reservoir in Modder East.

“The pump has broken down on many occasions, and other times the pump just switched off sometimes due to electrical faults and load shedding.

“The municipality has taken note of the complaints of the residents, and are building a new water reservoir, and the contract began on Monday.

“This will solve the problem in the long term, but I cannot comment on what the municipality is going to do to solve the current crisis,” says Sheodin.

Sheodin says he will continue to bring the issue to the attention of the relevant MMC and the city manager.

The metro failed to respond in time for publication.
