Ward councillor charged with attempted murder suspended by ANC
“We have met with the suspect to inform him about the party’s decisions and he has agreed to step down until the case is ruled on in court.”

The chief whip of the ANC in Ekurhuleni, Jongizizwe Dlabathi, has condemned the alleged criminal actions of one of the party’s ward councillors who allegedly opened fire and injured a resident on December 24.
It is alleged the councillor’s brother was fighting with the victim and the brother called the councillor to intervene.
Upon arrival the councillor allegedly pulled out a gun and shot the victim in his upper body.

The victim is still being treated in an East Rand hospital.
Dlabathi and representatives of the governing party in the metro visited the family to assure them of the ANC’s position on the matter.
“We condemn the alleged actions of the ward councillor because as a leader he should have known better and not resorted to using a gun to resolve differences.
“We are very clear about the illegal use of firearms, especially in public.
“The matter is currently under investigation and we are allowing the law to take its course to ensure that the victim and family receive justice.”

“He made an appearance before the Springs Magistrate’s Court on December 30 and was released on bail,” she adds.
