Life at a standstill for Edmare CremonEdmare

Cremon says for the past five years she has had to go back to the college each time she needs proof she passed matric.

Edmaré Cremon feels as though her life has been nowhere slowly for the past five years.

This all began in 2015 after she struggled to get her matric certificate.

“I matriculated from the Ekurhuleni East TVET College in 2006.

“The issued my matric certificate in 2007 and all was fine.

“In between moving cities, I lost my certificate and I applied for a reissue.

“The Department of Education referred me to the college since I did my matric there, and since then it has been constant back and forth between the college and myself trying to get a matric certificate,” says Cremon.

Cremon says for the past five years, she has had to go back to the college each time she needs proof she passed matric.

The college provides her with a print-out of her results.

This she says, is not enough.

“With all the fraud going on, companies want a copy of your matric certificate.

“I can’t even study further because institutions such as Unisa want your matric certificate.

“I’ve been forced to get minimum wage jobs to provide for my children,” says Cremon.

Cremon says she is not satisfied with the help she’s been getting from the staff at the college, and says she cannot afford keep going the way she has.

Additionally, Cremon alleges she was told by a member of staff last Monday to go to Pretoria to collect her certificate from there.

This was the first time she had heard something like this, but it also contradicted what she had been told previously at the college, that she should collect her certificate from there.

“How am I supposed to go to Pretoria?

“I don’t have a job so I can’t go there,” says Cremon.

The college did not respond in time for publication.
