Resident stuck with hole in driveway

Nieuwoudt fears that it will grow larger and possibly cause major damage to her car.

A burst water pipe has left a large hole in Carla Nieuwoudt’s driveway.

The continuous force of the water has eroded some of the ground underneath the driveway that Carla and her husband use every day.

As a result a part of the driveway has collapsed, creating a large hole.

Nieuwoudt fears that it will grow larger and possibly cause major damage to her car.

Nieuwoudt says: “This is a safety hazard, anyone can fall in here and injure themselves.

“I have a small car and if it falls in here it will be totally damaged.

“It is also wasting a lot of water.”

When Nieuwoudt and her husband heard the water flowing on January 29 they called the metro who sent a team out the next day.

According to Nieuwoudt the team just stood and listened, fearing that inspection might cause unnecessary damage and never returned, despite numerous requests.

Carla and her husband have had to resort to covering the hole with slabs of cement to prevent damaging their cars and making the hole bigger.

The metro has failed to respond to our inquiries.
