Springs Chess club hosting online matches
As an alternative for the club nights, an online chess club has been set up for the club's members.
The Springs Chess Club consists of around 40 active members that get together every Thursday for the club’s weekly club nights.
They have two coaches that they pay to help improve the skills of their players.
The majority of the members are children, but many adult players that get together for the event as well.
The club also host tournaments with the assistance of the Ekurhuleni Chess Club.
However, since the lockdown the Springs Chess has not been allowed to open, meaning that no coaching could take place for the players.
The club’s only source of income comes from the coaching and the coaching fees, and they continued to pay the coaches from the proceeds the club earned from tournaments over the years.
However the club fears that this money will be depleted within the next month or two, leaving the club with no money.
