It was reported in the article that residents of Bakerton and surrounding areas suffered a three-day power outage from August 29 to 31.
It was claimed that despite numerous calls and emails to the metro, technicians were not dispatched to the area to address the problem.
In addition, some residents reported receiving abnormally high electricity bills.

As a result, about 800 residents signed a petition expressing their dissatisfaction with how the metro responded to the issue.
“Presently, the metro is looking at the stability of the electricity supply in the City and calls on residents to refrain from illegal connections, which largely accounts for overburdening of the grid, resulting in outages,” said Cebekhulu.
