High school sweethearts still happily married

They spent their honeymoon in Portugal and still have fond memories and various trinkets from the trip.

Veronica and Harold Nabal recently celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary.
The couple met each other as students at Hoërskool Hugenote and have been together ever since.
Veronica said she knew Harold was the one the first time she saw him during a school trip.
“I thought he was very handsome and I had to find out who he was. I enlisted the help of my cousins to track him down,” she said.
The two immediately hit it off and married shortly after completing school.

Their wedding took place in the Selcourt Church in 1971 and they moved to a house in Pollak Park where they still live today.
They spent their honeymoon in Portugal and still have fond memories and various trinkets from the trip.
The couple has two children, Vanessa and Renier, and four grandchildren, Vevé, Kreil, Edrich and Darius.
Victoria and Harold both agree that having children made their marriage stronger.

Victoria left her job in 1976 to fully devote herself to her children and said it was one of the best decisions of her life.
“I love my children very much so I decided to be there for them.
“Being alone at home isn’t always easy so I took up gardening. I also collected and sold items as a hobby to keep myself occupied,” she said.

After 50 years of marriage, the two said they are still learning about each other and allow each other the opportunity to grow as individuals.
“Young people marrying today should give the other person space to grow on their own.
“You can’t control the other person. That will just result in fights and you will end up being unhappy in your marriage,” advised Victoria.
