The rebuilding of the Bakerton Stadium has finally been completed, with finishing touches being done to the paving.
Contractors were hired in March 2020 to rebuild the stadium after it was left in a ruinous and unusable state after repeated acts of vandalism and theft.
Residents of Bakerton pleaded with the metro for many months to restore the stadium.
Bakerton, an active and sport-loving community, were desperate for a place to play their favourite sports, especially soccer.

The community also wanted the stadium to serve as a distraction for young people and keep them away from drugs and gang activity.
The rebuilding efforts were severely hampered by repeated government lockdowns and frequent changes of contractors.
Fully revamping and rebuilding the stadium was a major task, especially considering the extent of the damage done by vandals.
The stadium’s locker rooms and grandstands were stripped, making it impossible to host games, and the field was unusable.

However, brand new and state-of-the-art locker rooms have been installed and spectators can now enjoy matches from brand new grandstands.
The stadium is set to open to the public in October.
Ward councillor Ramesh Sheodin hopes the stadium brings positive change to the community and that people will respect it.
