Mike du Toit, DA, Ward 76
I am standing as a ward councillor because I am disgusted by the collapse of our critical infrastructure resulting in appalling service delivery. I wish to contribute to getting something done to turn this situation around before the city becomes another failed municipality.
The major issues affecting the ward include regular interruptions of electricity and water supply caused by a lack of maintenance, crime, misallocation and misappropriation of resources. This leads to lack of investment in the area resulting in rising unemployment and socio-economic problems.
My vision for the ward is a clean prosperous community that encourages the establishment of factories and businesses and subsequent employment opportunities.
I have been on the executive of our residents association for 19 years, on our sector CPF and the executive of the Springs SAPS precinct CPF executive for 12 years, and on the Chamber of Commerce and Industry executive for seven years. These positions keeps me in contact with the interests and issues of the residents.
I gained experience as a member of the citizen force in the SADF as a civic affairs officer in the 1970s and 80s, and I believe that I have shown an ability to build trust between disparate communities and institutions.
