After months of delays at the Mega City project in Edelweiss due to lockdown, constructors are ready for the project to resume.
Former councillor for Ward 76 Shadow Shabangu believes the R31.5-billion project will progress and people will start working.

“What we have done is to build all the underground infrastructure. We have sewage, stormwater and roads. With the project, the contractors are pulling water from the Selcourt reservoir to Mega City. There is, therefore, a pipeline of water that will be supplying Mega City with water,” said Shabangu.
He said the water project will take six months to complete and then houses will be built.
“So far everything is going according to plan, even though the budget that was allocated is still in process. With my last year in council, I am just glad we have already started. Hopefully, with the new councillor, he will have ways for the government to process funds to finish this project,” he said.
Shabangu has handed over the reins to councillor Mike du Toit.

Du Toit said he is well informed about the project and is looking forward to continuing with the former councillor’s vision of finishing the project.
“The project revolves around the budget. My work now is to find out where the budget is and when they are going to be allocating it for us to continue with work. It has only been days in the ward since the elections, and there is still a lot to do,” he said.
He said he has been involved in the area for years with Shabangu and is ready for the journey in which he will be partaking.
