Struisbult community desperate for proper service delivery
“Our suburb is filthy, and the municipality hasn’t responded. Our parks are not well-maintained, trees fall into the roads, street lights are not fixed, and the grass is taller than our houses.”
Chairperson of the CPF of Struisbult Joel Mahamba has raised concerns about service delivery.
“Our suburb is filthy, and the municipality hasn’t responded. Our parks are not well-maintained, trees fall into the roads, street lights are not fixed, and the grass is taller than our houses,” said Mahamba.
Mahamba said they need services and excuses won’t help the community because it has been far too long.

“Our street lights have not been operating for years. We live in a dangerous area and when you report the issue, they give you a reference number and promise to attend to the matter within 24 hours but there’s no help.”
He said councillor Mike du Toit has been informed about their problems and the community understands that he is still new, yet the problem remains that the previous councillor’s promises were not kept.

“We have been taking it upon ourselves with our issues but nobody is willing to help. This area is not even safe for our children when they go to school because of the grass and the trees that are not being taken care of.
“We found a stolen car in some bushes. We cannot allow our children to play in the parks because the parks are not in a good state. One of our neighbours found snakes in their homes,” said Mahamba.

Speaking to the Advertiser, Mahamba hopes that the community’s cries will be heard because they are desperate for help.
“We are very much neglected by our municipality. We are helping our new councillor and we understand he has his ways of doing things since he is still new. We consulted numerous times with the municipality and yet nothing has been done. We are tired of waiting. We want a safe and clean neighbourhood,” he said.
