Man found with illegal gun and ammo
The man was arrested after Springs SAPS Crime Prevention Unit members, under the commander of Capt Mervyn Kasavan, received a tip-off.
A 46-year-old man was arrested in Selection Park on Thursday after he was found in possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition.
The man was arrested after Springs SAPS Crime Prevention Unit members, under the commander of Capt Mervyn Kasavan, received a tip-off.
“Without any hesitation, police followed up on the information. On arrival at the address, they found the man and requested to search a room where they recovered a 9mm pistol with ammunition,” explained Capt Johannes Ramphora, communications officer at Springs SAPS.

The man was unable to produce a firearm licence for the weapon and was immediately arrested and taken to the Springs Police Station for detention.
“An investigation will be instituted to ascertain whether the firearm was used or can be linked to other crimes committed, and to trace the lawful owner.
“The suspect will be charged with possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition,” he added.
Springs station commander Brig Thembeke Gwebushe applauded the members for their swift response in apprehending the perpetrator.
