NPO helps addicts to go to rehab

Reagile Community Development is offering to help addicts kick their habit.

Reagile Community Development is offering to help addicts kick their habit.
“I saw that there was a need after my brother, who is a recovering addict, got into rehab about two years ago. A lot of people started asking how we got him help and how they could help their loved ones,” said Natasha Masike, founder of Reagile Community Development.
Masike made it her mission to connect willing addicts to the centres they so desperately needed.

“There are many rehabs that are committed to doing good work. After communicating with a few, I met the people at Rhema Ministries who run a programme for addicts,” she added.
Masike said she was drawn to Rhema Ministries because it is God-centered.
“I believe that if anyone who will be able to change their lives in such a major way, really needs a strong foundation. And for some people that is God or their faith,” she says.
Masike explains that her organisation places great focus on the family of the addicts as well.
“When someone is trapped in the life of drugs, they usually hurt the people around them as well. So we want to make sure that the family or guardians are involved and get their healing in the process.
“The centre also does not accept patients without a valid next of kin,” she added.

Masike accompanies addicts to the centre in Johannesburg every week.
She also partners with Thabang Xaba Foundation to raise awareness about drug abuse.
The organisations are creating skills programmes and reintegration when the former addicts return from rehab.
“Our work is never done. Many people relapse because they are coming back to the same conditions. Sometimes their lives are even worse.
“We want to be that support for them and their families, as they create new lives for themselves,” says Masike.
