Water pipe bursts on Paul Kruger Highway

On Wednesday morning, water was streaming down Paul Kruger Highway due to a burst water pipe.

Early this morning (July 27), the metro was made aware of a burst water pipe on Paul Kruger Highway.
Ekurhuleni municipal workers on the scene said when they arrived they had to close the water valves to establish the cause.
Water from the pipe, which is on the pavement between the lanes on the busy road, has affected the road surface, however, the metro is yet to confirm the extent of the damage.
“Municipal workers had to pump out the water from underground to try and establish what the problem is,” said Stoffel van Heerden, Springs CPF Sector 5 chairperson.

“In the meantime, motorists can expect heavy delays on both lanes, however, the EMPD and Springs CPF Sector 5 are controlling traffic.
“Some surrounding areas might be experiencing low water pressure.”
Ward 72 Clr Dean Stone said the team is working to expose the pipe. Once this has been done, the damage will be ascertained and the estimated time to repair it.
“The affected areas are Presidents Ranch and Geduld Extension, where water tankers have been dispatched.
“We are in the process of having the EMPD assist with directing traffic from the affected carriage of the road,” he said.
The metro will provide further updates regarding the issue.
