Church sheds light on persecuted groups
The NG Church hoped to teach people to be grateful for their freedom of religion.
The NG Church in Geduld hosted an educational expo last Friday.
This initiative was aimed at educating people about oppressed and persecuted groups in some countries, such as women and Christians.

The event also highlighted some things the groups experienced because of their gender but importantly, their religious preferences. The church hoped to teach people gratitude and to bring to their attention the privilege they have been blessed with in a democratic country that allows them to worship and be who they want to be without fear.

There were stalls set up to educate the people who attended. They were filled with informative posters including violence statistics. Attendees also got to taste the foods native to the countries such as Turkish tea and sweets that taste like koeksisters.
Some stalls even gave lessons about language and spices.
The stall owners were dressed in clothes that represent the country they were hosting.

The highlight of the evening was the ‘arrest’ that was simulated to give people a perspective of what happens to the persecuted people in the countries.
Police came and pretended to look for Bibles or religious artefacts, then proceeded to ‘arrest’ two women.
Savoury mince and chicken bunny chows with cold drinks were served.
