Education department honours Springs Muslim School for 100% pass rate over the years.

Gauteng East District Director Somikazi Chabalala: “It is a miracle attributed to the hard work of teachers.”

Members of the executive management at the Department of Education East District were at the school on Wednesday to congratulate learners and staff on their 100% pass rate for the past 15 years.

Gauteng East District director Somikazi Chabalala gave a speech that relayed her pride in the school and, most of all, the district in its entirety.

“We are here as the management to applaud, to celebrate and to extend gratitude for the work the educators and the principal have put in,” she said.

“Because of the dedication and hard work of the leadership of the schools and the learners who put their effort in, we can say we have moved from being the last at number 15 to number eight as a district.

“You have removed our shame and you have outperformed yourself. You have put us in a better position. We are grateful and beyond humbled. Our results have improved throughout the entire district.

“We share a common vision that the children of this country are our asset, and we share a common goal of turning them into the best versions of themselves.”

The school’s chairperson, Abdul Sammed Khan, extended his thanks and highlighted how the combined efforts of the educators, leadership and the participation of children are the reasons for their success.

“As different as we are as groups, we share so much in common. And it is with that positivity that we cement our gratitude toward you. Ours is a partnership of which we are proud. Since the school’s conception, we have received nothing but support from the department. We are proud to be a part of the South African education system,” he said.

He remarked that a school building meant nothing without its learners.

“One of our learners from Kwa-Thema struggled with transport and studying because of load-shedding and Covid-19 during exams. We had to accommodate her needs to show that we as a school understand the struggles of our children beyond our own experiences.

“The heart of the school is not in the building, it’s in its learners,” he said.

Principal Mohammed Asvat echoed the sentiments of the chairperson and was equally as proud of his teachers’ efforts.

“Our dedicated team of subject teachers must be commended for their hard work, dedication and sacrifice,” he said.
