Selcourt Pre-Primary School take children on a trip to the pet shop for pet week

Selcourt Pre-primary School had a pet awareness excursion on Friday. The outing was to the Pet Hub, a pet shop in Selcourt.

This was in line with their pet-themed lessons for the week.

“We are taking the time to teach the children about different animals. People assume that a pet can only be a cat or a dog. We are re-educating and introducing other animals so that the children are inspired.

“We are also trying to end the stigma of the dangers that animals pose around children,” said Pet Hub’s Janine Coetzer.

The visit included a talk on basic pet care, including what foods animals eat and how often to feed them.

The children were allowed to interact with the birds, feed the fish and play with award-winning Great Danes, Falcon and Firefly.
