Cro-Knitters plead for wool donations for a winter drive

The wool drive is an initiative for disadvantaged schools.

Cro-Knitters, a group of women who crochet for charity, are pleading with the residents of Springs to donate wool for their winter drive.

The founder, Heather Bendeman (73), said they hope to make 300 beanies for two disadvantaged schools.

“Laerskool Eloff and Rietkol Primary School reached out and asked us to make beanies for them. We plan to make 150 beanies for each school,” said Heather.

To make the dream a reality, they need donations of wool because they don’t have enough in their stockpile.

“We need double-knit, maroon or emerald-coloured wool.

“We ask for those colours specifically because they match the schools’ uniforms, and we don’t want the children looking different from their peers,” she added.

She said the crochet classes held every Monday keep them busy and in the community.

“Crocheting used to be a dying art, but now it is being revived. We are better because we make practical things such as blankets and clothes which people will use for years,” she affirms.

You can drop off the wool at Turning Point Ministries on 59 Miller Road, Nuffield. For more information, contact Heather on 083 580 4758.
