Springs Scouts had fun during competition weekend

Impala will take part in a district competition camp later this year.

Springs Central Air Scouts held a competition over the weekend with many stages like night patrols, a best campfire leg and a cooking division.

The patrols had to pioneer tables that had a gateway flag poles and gadgets, using poles and rope.

“Each patrol makes a campsite, like a house, for the weekend and they build tables to prepare and eat food. They also construct a gateway which is like a doorway and a fireplace where they cook for the weekend.

“They also did guard duty at night with parents to ensure everyone was safe because we don’t have an outer fence,” said troop assistant Melissa Campbell.

Bayden Erasmus from Impalas was the overall winner. After preparing a three-course meal for the judges, he also won the cooking competition.

Heinrich van der Merwe from Mirages came second and won the spirit trophy. Matthew Burger from Spitfires came third and won the best campfire and skit trophy.

“I would like to thank Michelle Vorster, the assistant troop scouter, for the great weekend,” said Campbell.
