Artists get creative to raise funds for SPCA

The organisers were able to raise R1700 through the event.

Residents got creative at the SPCA pet painting fundraiser last Saturday.

The event was held at A-Cafe in Dersley Park under the watchful eye of Carin Maree, an art teacher.

“I came up with the idea for the event because I give art classes,” said Maree.

“I know how therapeutic the process of creating an art work can be. It is also fun.”

Trudy van der Merwe supported the event to show her love for animals.

Participants were challenged to draw and paint pictures of their pets.

“I created a digital outline drawing of what I wanted to create and I ended up with three drawings,” explained Wilma Mostert.

Her sister Sanmarie also created three artworks on the day.

“Some of the participants chose to donate their art to the SPCA. The art can either be displayed at their offices or they can sell it raise more funds.”

The volunteers also accepted donations of food and blankets.

The organisers were able to raise R1 700 through the event. All proceeds were donated to the Springs SPCA.

Carin Maree, an art teacher, was the brains behind the initiative. She is with Alta Gobey,s the chairperson of the SPCA Springs and the owner of A-Cafe.
