Youth Day celebrated at Welgedacht Stadium
The youth joined in on the fun to celebrate South Africa's 47th Youth Day.
Annie’s School of Art and Captain Uprise Football Club hosted a Youth Day commemoration at the Welgedacht Stadium on June 16.
“The purpose of the event was to shift the mindset of the youth from a life of crime, substance use and abuse, gender-based violence, and rise in teenage pregnancy toward more uplifting activities that will transform their lives for the better and thus combat these societal issues,” explained Angel Malatjie, the dance teacher at Annie’s School of Art.
Malatjie hosted and organised the event.
The Delmas and Daveyton communities joined the Welgedacht youth because they uphold the same vision.

“The youth participated in activities like dance, which had a variety of styles like Afrofusion, amapiano and Sarafina, martial arts and freestyle poetry, singing, and other dance forms.
“They also played games such as morabaraba, jumping rope, soccer, and many indigenous games,” she added.
The youth were motivated by host and community leaders when they spoke with wisdom, taught life lessons, were encouraging, and practically demonstrated life skills the youth needed.
“The event was a success. The youth had fun, gained knowledge and ate good food, all thanks to the sponsors and donations received. The attendance was good. We had 82 people present and catered for.
“We thank the main sponsors and guests, Shepherds FC, J Gama, Puleng Sports, Delmas Karate Club, Daveyton Karate Club, and Welgedacht Sports Code,” concluded Malatjie.
The host was grateful for the support.
The event will now be held annually, hoping to reach, impact and transform more lives.
