Family tied up during house robbery in Springs Extension

Family tied up with cable ties by seven armed men during house robbery.

A man was tied up and held captive with the rest of his family during a house robbery on Ernest Street, Springs Extension, on July 27.
According to Springs SAPS communications officer Sergeant Themba Tshabalala, the victim was standing outside his house when he was approached by an unknown man asking him for a person unknown to him.
He then told the man that he didn’t know the person. A few minutes later, the man took out a gun and pointed it at the victim, instructing him not to make any noise.

“Six other armed men appeared, demanding drugs from the complainant. They then forced him to go inside the house,” said Tshabalala.
“Upon entering, they found his wife and child. They were ordered to lay down and were tied with cable ties.”
Tshabalala said that the armed men requested car keys from the man before ransacking the room. They took household goods, a laptop, three cellphones, a school uniform and a school bag and fled with the victim’s grey Chevrolet Capital.
Tshabalala added that no arrests have been made.
No injuries or gunshots were reported.
