Second annual Africa Women’s Cup Karate Championships a success

Female karatekas celebrated at karate champs

The Pan-African Shotokan Karate-Do Federation hosted the second annual Africa Women’s Cup Karate Championships on Saturday.

“The purpose of the event is to give female karateka the platform to showcase their skills in three formats, namely non-contact, full contact and Kobudo weapons.

“The participants showed great commitment. Especially the ones from outside the borders of our country,” explained Shihan Michael Cindi, the organiser.

Cindi said the federation is also committed to fighting the surge of gender-based violence in the country.

“We want to equip women with the skills to defend themselves, in any situation,” he added.

The show was held at the Hellenic Community Hall.

Kobudo weapons division female veterans:

  • First place Anita Pienaar (SA)
  • Second place Asma Veracha (SA)

Female seniors long weapons:

  • First place Nthabiseng Sibanda (SA)
  • Second place Fatima Seedat (SA)
  • Third place Jeahan Zvavanjanja (Zimbabwe)

Female long weapons:

  • First place Tariroyashe Ndhlovu (Zimbabwe)
  • Second place Shamiso Mokombe (Zimbabwe)
  • Third place Olga Zvavanjanja (Zimbabwe).

The grand champion for KATA is Nomthandazo Masemula from the Selcourt dojo.
