Woman gets life sentence for murder

A 32-year-old woman was sentenced to life imprisonment in connection with her employer’s murder.

The Springs Magistrate’s Court sentenced a 32-year-old woman to life imprisonment and 15 years imprisonment for murder and aggravated robbery committed in April 2020.

The incident occurred in Holfontein, Springs, when a passerby discovered a woman’s body on the back seat of an abandoned vehicle.

SAPS regional police spokesperson Captain Nelda Sekgobela said the deceased owned a funeral parlour in Tsakani. Upon investigation, the SAPS arrested a female employee and her boyfriend.

“The cards belonging to the deceased were found at the accused’s residence.

“The boyfriend pleaded guilty last year in the Springs Magistrate’s Court and was sentenced to 20 years imprisonment, while Vilakazi pleaded not guilty,” Sekgobela said.

Recently, Vilakazi was found guilty by the state and sentenced to life imprisonment. Springs SAPS Detective Sergeant Raymond Mogashoa ensured the successful conviction of the duo.

District commissioner Major General Anna Sithole commended Springs Mogashoa for ensuring a successful conviction.

“The conviction will serve as a message to other criminals who are terrorising business owners in communities,” she said.
