Canadian woman in search of great-uncle’s descendants

Barb Robinson, from Canada, is searching for the descendants of her late uncles, David and Sandy Keay.

Determined Canada resident Barb Robinson is searching for the descendants of her late great-uncle, David Keay.

David relocated to Springs in 1936 from his parental home in Saskatchewan, Canada, after his uncle, Sandy Keay, offered him a job at the Daggafontein Gold Mine.

“My uncle worked with a few employees who also worked with him,” said Robinson.

“Unfortunately, after a few years of working, David passed away due to an accident that happened at the mine.”

David died on September 27, 1939, aged 21.

Robinson plans to visit Springs and Brakpan from Canada in February, hoping to be united with her descendants.

“For 35 years, I have wanted to visit my uncle’s grave. I hope there will be someone who can help me find the graves.

“I was told the grave is in the Roman Catholic section of the Brakpan Cemetery.”

She also hopes to meet the pallbearers at David’s funeral or their families. They were Guy Hobden, Vernon Hobden, S Fleming, D Allen, J Gould and G Pollack.
