Ekurhuleni Fours Tournament dominates the greens

The bowls calendar is full and ready to keep people entertained with good sports and lighthearted fun.

The annual Ekurhuleni Fours Tournament brought together all bowling teams from across Ekurhuleni recently.

The event was especially exciting as it was held in Springs this year.

“We haven’t held this event in a long time so it’s special to have it again in Springs,” says Tokkie Hattingh.

Bowling can be played by both males and females and is a socially friendly sport.

“Anyone from the age of four going upwards can play bowls. You can play for as long as you are able,” says executive member of Ekurhuleni Bowls, Chantal Henn.

The tournament saw both ladies and men’s teams compete for the title.

Semi-finals started earlier in the day and by mid-afternoon the competition was between Boksburg and Kempton Park bowling clubs for the men’s division.

Northmead and Alberton bowling clubs were battling it out for the women’s division.

“The event as Springs town was a success, there was a good show up of spectatorship and an even better show of sportsmanship

“Springs Bowling Club is a club that is dear to our hearts because it was on the brink of closure until locals stepped in to help to keep its doors open,” says Chantal.

The club is thriving, boasting 58 members with a formidable and strong team.
