ATM bombed at bottle store in Slovo Park

The bottle store owner notified the Springs SAPS when neighbours reported explosions coming from the store.

Five men bombed an ATM at a Slovo Park bottle store in the early hours of Friday morning.

The bottle store owner notified the Springs SAPS when neighbours reported explosions coming from the store.

Police spokesperson Sergeant Themba Tshabalala said a witness within close proximity reported he was woken up by an explosion, which was followed by two more.

“The witness alleged that as he approached the store, he noticed five suspects leaving the premises,” said Tshabalala.

“He alleged that he followed them on foot, where, after shots were fired, he turned back.”

Tshabalala said entry to the store was obtained by bombing the sliding gate, which was secured with a lock and chain.

“Thereafter, the palisade security gate and sliding door were bombed to gain access to the building. The dropsafe was also bombed to gain access to the money.”

Tshabalala added that the owner said she had topped up the ATM on Tuesday with R20 000.

Nothing else inside was taken, and the total damage and loss are estimated at R150 000.
