Enderun College learners enjoy a fun-filled maths learning experience

School representative Tasneem Matwadia explained that these games were designed to encourage learners to apply mathematical concepts in a playful yet competitive environment.

The Enderun College hosted Maths Week to engage grades eight and nine learners in mathematical activities from September 2 to 4.

The school’s mathematics department organised the event and turned a subject many find challenging into an exciting and interactive experience.

It featured various educational games, including Maths 24, Shape Constructions and Fun with Number Operations.

School representative Tasneem Matwadia explained that these games were designed to encourage learners to apply mathematical concepts in a playful yet competitive environment.

“In Maths 24, learners worked in teams to solve arithmetic puzzles by manipulating numbers to reach the total of 24,” said Matwadia.

“Shape Constructions allowed students to use geometric principles to build various structures, fostering creativity and spatial reasoning.

“Meanwhile, Fun with Number Operations challenged learners to solve complex problems involving addition, subtraction, multiplication and division.”

The learners were grouped for each game, promoting teamwork and collaborative problem-solving. The teams received points based on their performances in the games.

“The competitive atmosphere pushed learners to think quickly and apply their mathematical knowledge effectively,” said Matwadia.


Grade Nine learners enjoy Fun with Number Operations.

Feedback from the participants was overwhelmingly positive, with many learners saying they enjoyed the activities.

One learner said, “I did not think maths could be so much fun. Working with my friends to solve puzzles was amazing.

“Overall, Maths Week at our school was a resounding success, providing an innovative and enjoyable approach to learning mathematics.

“The mathematics department’s efforts to make the subject more accessible and enjoyable were well-received and learners left the event with new skills and a renewed appreciation for the subject.”
