Colour run in Welgedacht highlights cancer prevention

The Welgedacht community enjoyed a vibrant day in honour of cancer awareness on October 12.

The community of Welgedacht gathered for a vibrant and educational cancer awareness colour run on October 12. Participants aged four and older enjoyed colour-throwing activities throughout the day.

Reneiliwe Matsoalela from Epignosis Christian School said the event’s aim went beyond fun as participants returned from the walk to engage with a health professional in cancer.

“A nurse, Busisiwe Zwane, educated women about breast cancer and men about prostate cancer. She explained what cancer was, how it developed, how to prevent it and early detection symptoms.”

Joy and colour filled the air as the young ones participated in the walk.

“More speakers spoke to our younger participants about bullying and its impact on learners at school,” said Reneilwe.

“We also took the opportunity to educate young girls on their menstrual cycle and in a thoughtful gesture we donated a care package that included sanitary pads to young girls of the community.”

The event combined physical activity and community support, making it a memorable and impactful day for everyone. The school thanked the sponsors and parents for their contributions towards the success of the event.
