Join the Bhairavi Sungum’s Give-a-Tray collection for children

Bhairavi Sungum of Springs extends warm wishes for a joyous and prosperous Diwali to all celebrating this festival on October 31.

The Bhairavi Sungum of Springs will be hosting its annual Diwali Give-a-Tray collection on October 31.

Diwali, also referred to as ‘Deepavali’ or the ‘Festival of Lights,’ marks the New Year for many Indian cultures and commemorates Lord Rama’s return to Ayodhya after his victory over Ravana.

It symbolises the triumph of good over evil, light over darkness, and knowledge over ignorance, instilling hope in the hearts of many.

Bhairavi Sungum’s chairperson Poovershree Pillay exampled that during this festive time, families illuminate their homes with clay lamps, decorate with flowers and colourful rangolis, and share gifts and sweets with neighbours and loved ones.

“As we embrace the spirit of giving during this auspicious festival, let us remember the less fortunate children,” said Pillay.

“We encourage everyone to contribute by sending a tray of sweetmeats, savoury snacks, or non-perishable items.”

The collection will take place on 10:00 until 16:30 opposite the Bakerton Community Centre. All donations will be distributed at the East Rand Children’s Haven on behalf of the community.

The Sungum extends warm wishes for a joyous and prosperous Deepavali to all celebrating this festival.

“Please remember to exercise caution when lighting fireworks and ensure the safety of your pets during the festivities,” Pillay cautioned.
