Group aims to end child hunger in community

The Power of Unity has run the feeding scheme for five months.

A group from the Skoonplaas informal settlement in Modder East decided to feed the community’s children.

The group, called Power of Unity, has run its feeding scheme for an average of 300 children for five months.

Mahlatsi Sethibela, one of the members, said they want to eliminate hunger for all children in Skoonplaas.

“We endeavour to feed the whole section because it is difficult seeing children go to sleep on empty stomachs.”

Three-hundred children line up to receive bread and soup every Friday.

The group gives the children bread and soup every Friday when they return from school.

“We do this from our own pockets because this initiative is important to us.”
