Springsite pensioner seeks help maintaining cemetery

The resident needs help to keep the cemetery clean.

Geduld pensioner Frans Roestoff needs fellow Springsites to help him maintain the Geduld Cemetery.

He has cleaned and maintained the cemetery since last year and has lamented the endeavour’s costs.

“Diesel for the grass-cutter and lawnmower costs an arm and a leg. Sometimes, I need extra labour to lend a hand and must pay them, too.

“With the rain persists, it feels like I am starting over again when it stops, and the grass has regrown.”

Roestoff, who has used most of his savings, says he does not want to stop, but it gets harder to get things done daily.

His partner, Lisa Prinsloo, confirmed this, saying the money used is starting to affect Roestoff’s livelihood.

“He has spent about R52 000, which included his life savings and funds from a car he sold to keep the momentum going. He struggles to sleep with all the money that leaves his pockets to maintain the cemetery.”

Recently, their list of worries increased when criminals stole Roestoff’s cellphone and lawnmower.

Anyone wishing to donate to the cause may contact Lisa on 063 325 9219.
