Residents at wits end over abandoned classrooms

Eastvale residents are in desperate need for intervention from the the education department.

Eastvale residents are still living in fear with the ongoing criminal activities taking place on their doorstep. Residents who have been living behind the grounds of Môrester Primary School for several years are considering moving.

As recently reported by the Springs Advertiser, this concern stems from temporary classrooms being abandoned after months of non-use.

The 14 makeshift classrooms erected in 2022 accommodated learners while the new classrooms were constructed.
The classrooms have been vacant since the completion of renovations in June.

Since then thieves stole all the classroom doors, lightbulbs, and electrical cables. Residents claimed to see criminals there almost every day. Some admitted to fearing for their lives daily.

After the Advertiser reported on this matter, the Department of Education claimed they would soon remove and relocate the classrooms.

At the time, deputy principal Sibonisile Moeketsi stated the school was also a victim of vandalism and criminal activities on their grounds.

She suggested the department move the classrooms closer to the other classrooms for the school to use, because the facility is the only primary school in the area.

Comment was again requested from the education department but none was received at the time of publication.
