Springs’ RJL U11 cricket team takes second at Winter League

Young talent from RJL Sports Academy impressed at the Winter League, with standout performances from Sion Koen earning spots in the all-star team.

The RJL Sports Academy’s U11 cricket team finished second after excelling in the Winter League held from July 5 to 6.

After winning by five wickets against the league champions, the U11 team advanced to the finals. They faced Fast Track Tigers Yellow in the finals and lost by four wickets.

One player, Sion Koen, was selected for the all-star team after his stunning performance in the league. The all-star team comprises the top performers from the league who will play against each other.

Sion played nine matches and scored 346 runs, making him the fifth-best batsman in the league. He is also ranked 14th among the bowlers.

Another standout player was Logan Priebe (8), who finished 27th after taking nine wickets during the season.

“With their age and their ability to play at this level, both of these players will go far,” Lelanie Booysen of RJL Sports Academy said.

Booysen said finishing in second place is an achievement because it shows the players are of top-tier quality.

“The overall performance this weekend was nerve-wracking and incredibly close. The children pushed themselves to the limit, especially in the final match when they had no break between the two. They were tired but gave it their all,” she said.
