FOLLOW-UP: Ekurhuleni to restore Slovo Park power while removing illegal connections

The City of Ekurhuleni says power will be gradually restored in Slovo Park as illegal connections, meter bypasses and ghost vendors are removed.

Following an article in the Springs Advertiser regarding a protest by Slovo Park residents regarding electricity issues, ‘Slovo Park residents protest over five-month power outage’, the City of Ekurhuleni said that the power supply in the area will be restored by slowly removing illegal connections.

Zweli Dlamini, the metro’s spokesperson, said that the intermittent power supply in the area is caused by illegal connections, meter bypasses and ghost vendors.

He added that it causes grid overload and burning of transformers, among other damage to the power supply network.

“Those whose accounts are blocked from loading electricity due to debt will have to regularise their accounts by paying, entering into payment arrangements or going through the city’s debt rehabilitation before their supply is restored,” said Dlamini.
