Springs boy graduates from Meerkats to Cubs in local scouting movement
Seven-year-old Christopher Van Wyk has taken the next step in his scouting journey, moving from the meerkats to the cubs, much to the pride of his family and scouters.
Christopher van Wyk (7) has moved up the Scouting ranks from the Meerkats to the Cubs. Van Wyk joined the Springs Central Meerkats when he was five. His mother, Lisma Van Wyk, said that she is so proud of him.
“We asked around and saw a post on Facebook about the Meerkats. He is always ready to try new things.”
Lisma shared a memory of Christopher’s first day in the Meerkats. She said that his first day was terrible, but eventually warmed up to the occasion.
“All he wants to do is badge work. He has grown into a proud boy,” she said.
Nicole Swanepoel, Christopher’s Den Scouter, said she will miss him.
“I loved your enthusiasm in all the stuff we did. You loved the crafts, but mostly the science stuff. Watching you wash your hands after every messy project was a treat. I wish you all the luck in your next journey. Make me and Springs Central proud,” said Swanepoel.
