Bokamoso shines as Springs Premier FC’s rising star goalkeeper

At only 11 years old, Bokamoso Leseilane is proving that determination, talent and courage can stop more than just goals.

At just 11 years old, Bokamoso Leseilane is already making a name for herself between the posts for Springs Premier FC’s U10 team.

Her exceptional flexibility, sharp reflexes, and strong coordination have set her apart, earning her the title of the team’s top goalkeeper.

The Grade 5 learner’s soccer journey began two years ago when she started as a defender, inspired after watching her cousin, Tiro, play. But her coach, Simphiwe Majelman, quickly noticed her potential and fearless attitude.

So far this season, Bokamoso has conceded only six goals and continues to grow more confident with every match.

“When she first started, we told her not to be scared to catch the ball. She is naturally flexible, so that works in her favour. She has improved a great deal since she started playing two years ago,” Majelman said.

Bokamoso says she enjoys the challenge of being the only girl in the team and takes pride in saving goals against the boys.

“Sometimes the other players think I’m only a girl to make it easier to score, but this is not the case,” she said with a smile.

Although she still gets nervous during the start of each game, she says once she holds the ball the first time, her nerves go away.

Bokamoso hopes to one day be a businesswoman, a model and continue playing soccer for the country’s national team.

“I am going to play for Banyana Banyana.”

Her biggest supporter is her mother, Tolwane Leseilane, who never misses a game and proudly cheers from the sidelines with other parents, affectionately calling her “Boka.”

“She loves sports and enjoys playing netball, running cross-country, for which she earned a certificate. She is also talkative, hands-on and helpful. I feel so proud of her every time I watch her play. I will always be her number one fan,” she said.
